Friday, October 20

The Cripple of Inishmaan
7:30 pm, Sophia Gordon Center for the Creative and Performing Arts

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934, "The Cripple of Inishmaan" by Martin McDonagh is a darkly comic tale, in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. McDonagh’s characters skirt a fine line between cruelty and kindness as they deal with the tedium of daily life on the island and the audacity of hope presented by Billy, the young cripple who has set his sights on fame and fortune in Hollywood. The play includes adult language and is not appropriate for children.

A limited number of complimentary seats are available for those who register online by Wednesday, October 18.

Pep Rally

Celebrate like Vikings! Cheer on your fall team captains! Show off your Salem State Spirit while celebrating with novelty activities, DJ, snacks, and giveaways! Send our Viking teams off to victory at home and away!

Open Skate
10 pm-12 am, Rockett Arena, O’Keefe Complex

The hockey rink opens for all to enjoy! Ice skates in a variety of sizes available.

Saturday, October 21

Volunteer Summit
8:30 am-12 pm, O’Keefe Complex

Salem State Volunteers are charged with being ambassadors of the university. This exciting event will bring together a diverse group of passionate supporters to learn, brainstorm and collaborate in the name of engagement that leads to supporting Salem State in the fullness of its mission. 

Viking Tailgate Celebration
10:30 am-2 pm, O’Keefe Sports Complex

Don’t miss this epic community celebration of students, families, alumni and friends! The tailgate includes student musical performances, novelty attractions, games, not so traditional tailgate food and cash bar. 

$10 per person/ $5 per person for groups of four or more. No additional charge for current Salem State students should bring their ClipperCard ID to use their meal plan. Children under 10 are free.   

21+ only allowed in the Viking Beer Garden.  Cash bar available.

First Year Family Brunch
11 am, Gassett Fitness Center

All first year students and families are cordially invited to a special reception in your honor. Meet President John Keenan, Salem State’s 14th chief executive. The enrollment management, student life, and marketing staff members proudly welcome the newest members of the Salem State “family.”

Donor Hospitality Lounge at Viking Tailgate

Salem State University annual donors who made a gift between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017 are invited with a guest to celebrate with fellow Vikings. This complimentary event will include light refreshments, beer, wine, and admission to the Viking Tailgate food and activities.

Destination Salem will share what makes Salem such an exciting place to live, learn, and play all year.

Study Abroad 101

Tour the campus with our Admissions Ambassadors.

Downtown Salem Shuttle
2-6 pm, Gassett Fitness Center

Ride the Salem State Shuttle from the Gassett Fitness Center to the Salem Visitor’s Center. Continuous shuttles run between these locations until 6 pm.

Planetarium Display
6:30 pm, Meier Hall, Collins Observatory

See the night sky including the Moon and Saturn (weather permitting) with chemistry and physics professor Luke Conlin. Register by Wednesday, October 18.

“The Cripple of Inishmaan”
7:30 pm, Sophia Gordon Center for the Creative and Performing Arts

Salem State Theatre presents a dark comedy by Martin McDonagh. The play is set on the small community of Inishmaan, off the Western Coast of Ireland in 1934, where the inhabitants are excited to learn of a Hollywood film crew's arrival in neighboring Inishmore to make a documentary about life on the islands. A limited number of complimentary seats are available for those who register by Wednesday, October 18.

Superfan Brunch
11 am-1 pm, Marsh Hall Dining Common, Central Campus

Join your student for brunch while you’re entertained by live jazz music. Students use their meal plans while visiting families dine for free.

Glass Studio Demonstration
12-1 pm, Glassworks Studio, Enterprise Center

Have you ever seen glassblowing live? Come to the glassworks studio for a free demonstration in the art of glassblowing with art + design professor John Volpacchio. The demo is free but space is limited.

SGA Haunted Happenings
1-4 pm, Ellison Campus Center

Join Student Government Association and student organization leaders for a Halloween costume party for local elementary school children featuring spirited games, arts and crafts

Gassett Fitness Center
All Salem State University community members are invited to try the Gassett Fitness Center complimentary. To participate, individuals need to be at least 18 years of age and have a government issued photo ID.

Fitness Center hours are:
Friday, 6 am-8 pm
Saturday, 10 am-7 pm
Sunday, 12-10 pm

Salem Diner
The Salem Diner will be open for Homecoming and Family Weekend! The diner is located across the street from the Bertolon School of Business on Central Campus (70 Loring Ave).

Visit the Salem State University Bookstore to purchase Salem State t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, jackets and other memorabilia! Bookstore hours are Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.

Haunted Happenings 2017
October 1- October 31

While in town, check out the Salem Haunted Happenings celebration!

A festive celebration of Halloween and fall in New England, more than 250,000 people come to Salem Haunted Happenings each year. Events include a Grand Parade, the Haunted Biz Baz Street Fair, Family Film Nights on Salem Common, costume balls, ghost tours, haunted houses, live music, and chilling theatrical presentations.
