Are you interested in engaging with your community? Would you like to be a change-maker, someone who wants to make a difference in the world? Are you excited to start your college experience?  Join us for Moving Forward, Giving Back: Salem State University’s First Year Day of Service.

Join 200 of your new classmates, the Center for Civic Engagement, first year experience office, current students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community organizations for a day of service in the greater Salem area. Be part of this special cohort of new students who want to make a lasting and impactful connection in our community.

Who is involved?

200 first-year and transfer students; commuter and residential. 

Why participate?
  • Make lasting connections with your new classmates and the community

  • Get to know and engage with the greater Salem community

When is the event?
  • Move-in (for residential students): Thursday, August, 31, 12-3 pm (individual residence halls)

  • Welcome Event: Thursday, August, 31, 5-9 pm (Veterans Hall, Ellison Campus Center)

  • Day of Service: Friday, September 1, 8 am-4 pm (starts in Veterans Hall, Ellison Campus Center)

  • Celebration and Reflection: Friday evening, September 1 (Veterans Hall, Ellison Campus Center)
